Adult Swim's Premier New Show of 2025 Gets a Major Extension for Two More Seasons.

Last October, the late-night programming block welcomed back its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. However, not long after, the channel unveiled a brand-new animated series with a markedly softer feel. Haha, You Clowns emerged as heartwarming and calm, evoking a cartoon version of a contemplative talk show. During a period often characterized by cynicism, this show's wholesomeness found an audience and helped it become a breakout hit.

A Two-Season Greenlight

On December 18th, the network made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for two additional seasons. This offers creator Joe Cappa a massive runway to develop the world of the Campbell family. The series follows three polite teenage brothers whose primary trait is their profound affection for their single father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four central characters.

"I’m so grateful to the viewers of the show who welcomed the series and spread the word," stated Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for seasons to come."

Executive Acclaim

Accompanying the news laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "radically heartfelt and uniquely eerie." He shouted out the fans who found the show and supported its uniquely offbeat appeal.

"All of you supported this new show, rooted for it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Wholesome Alternative

When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a wholesome alternative" to more cynical adult animated fare. There’s something surprisingly comfy about watching this endearing family navigate their daily lives.

At the time, creator Joe Cappa stated his hope to help comedy break out of its prevailing sarcastic tone. He traced this trend to various cultural shifts.

“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we are trapped in,” noted Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we just have to laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”

Future Seasons

Now, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa could potentially help usher in that very evolution. At a minimum, the renewal guarantees audiences a little more time to bask in the warm glow of the endearing Campbell clan.

The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. The complete first season is available for streaming on HBO Max.
