That Gory Cartoon Film Conclusion That Haunts Audiences
Among all the adult-oriented animated films I’ve ever viewed, nothing has lingered in my mind as much as the terror-laced ending of the graphically gory and deeply subversive film from 2022 The Unicorn Wars.
Back in 2015’s, the Spanish writer-director created a grim, melancholy and frequently brutal world that included some tiny , desolate twinges of hope.
While Unicorn Wars appears as it stemmed from a drive to expand the medium further, the director explained that it was rather an effort to communicate a widespread, multicultural theme about “the mutual source of all wars.”

For a certain particularly cruel, skeptical animal, the character Bluey, the battle with the unicorns becomes a route to power — and especially to authority over his gentler, kinder brother the character Tubby.
Bluey is a bully , an obvious sociopath , and when fear takes over his squad and claims his fellow soldiers one by one, he grabs progressively control for himself, via progressively violent, damaging approaches.
At the same time, the horned creatures are enduring their own horror, through a growing, deadly beast in their woods.
“Initially, it appears as a humorous movie,” the filmmaker commented. “Yet it becomes a more serious and sorrowful film. And by the end, it’s a horror film.”
The Unicorn Wars begins resembling one of the more whimsical movies by a legendary animator, that uncover a mischievous joy in letting cartoon characters swear, engage in violence, or engage sexually.
Then it becomes more akin to a more grim film from the same director, including ever more explicit brutality and a noticeable connection to the actual tragedy of battle.
Ultimately, it becomes a complete theatrical horror bloodbath.
The terror that turns this a perfect Halloween viewing kicks in a lot earlier than indicated.
The Unicorn Wars is ideal for the most dedicated fans of gore, for enthusiasts of intense movies who wish to view a movie they have not watched previously, and can endure a plot that pulls unflinching brutality.
Watch it in a dimly lit space with no disturbances, and the conclusion will crawl into your mind and linger.
