The President Calls Loved Ones of Shot Military Soldiers to the Presidential Residence
Former President Donald Trump announced on the weekend that he has extended an invitation the loved ones of a National Guard member killed last week to visit the executive mansion.
He added that he spoke to her family and they were “deeply grieving”.
Background on the Devastating Event
US army specialist Beckstrom, twenty years old, was lost her life in a shooting on Wednesday in Washington DC.
Her colleague, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, remains hospitalized in grave state.
Vigils across the state have taken place in their memory.
Presidential Call
The commander-in-chief stated he’s talked about a meeting at the presidential residence for the families of both soldiers of the West Virginia National Guard.
“I stated: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a difficult moment, arrive at the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to her,” Trump addressed the press. “And in the same way with Andrew, whether he recovers or not.”
Public Response
Community members came together over the weekend at a local school in the state to pay respects to Beckstrom.
Both she and Wolfe had been serving with the military unit as part of Trump’s national effort to assist law enforcement in the capital.
Paying Tribute to Sarah Beckstrom
“Sarah was the type of pupil that instructors wished for. She carried herself with calm resilience, a contagious smile and a positive energy that encouraged people around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the principal of her previous school, stated to the press. “She was kind, compassionate and always willing to assist people.”
Funeral details for Sarah are yet to be finalized.
Judicial Measures and Government Revisions
Law enforcement have accused a twenty-nine-year-old Afghan national with a charge of murder and two counts of attempted murder while armed.
The incident caused the government to suspend refugee claims and temporarily stop providing entry permits to possessors of travel documents.
Status of the Airman
Andrew Wolfe, a native of the city, started his military career in early 2019 and is a graduate of his local high school, as reported by the AP.
He continues to receive treatment and is “in a critical fight”, West Virginia governor Morrisey said on a news program.
Attorney general the attorney general informed the program that she planned to meet with Wolfe’s family.
Impact of Sarah Beckstrom
Beckstrom, from Summersville, graduated from her high school in 2023 and enlisted soon after, serving as a MP with honor, per the West Virginia National Guard.
“She had a lot of goodness and she certainly had courage,” he addressed the crowd at the vigil. “Though her life lasted far too short, she has made an impact that’s going to be remembered always.”
